“Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far?”
2 Samuel 7:18
David sits before the Lord in this moment, not standing tall in confidence, but sitting, asking a question that sounds almost fragile coming from a king. Who am I. There’s no performance in that question. It’s honest, unguarded, closer to vulnerability than strength.
Scripture doesn’t seem embarrassed by that. David’s fragility in this scene isn’t presented as a lapse in faith or a moment to move past quickly. It’s simply part of the record, sitting right alongside his greatest promises and victories.
Fragile is not the same as broken, and it deserves to be brought to the table just the same. A heart that feels tender, uncertain, or worn thin isn’t disqualified from God’s presence until it toughens back up. It can come exactly as it is, sitting before the Lord the way David did, without needing to perform strength it doesn’t currently have.
God With Us was never conditioned on having it together first. If today feels more fragile than strong, that’s not a reason to wait before coming near. It’s simply the honest state to bring.
Prayer
Lord, I come to You today exactly as I am, fragile in places, uncertain in others. I don’t need to perform strength before I sit with You. Thank You that fragile is not the same as broken, and that You meet me here, not only after I’ve toughened back up. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Declaration
Fragile is not broken. I bring myself to God exactly as I am today, without waiting to feel stronger first.
